Held on April 3 in Riverside Park, Manhattan, The Lustgarten Foundation's first-ever New York City Pancreatic Cancer Research Walk raised nearly $350,000 and had more than 2,000 participants. Local residents whose lives have been impacted by pancreatic cancer joined together with the Foundation to raise money and awareness for America's most lethal cancer. Participants chose between a one- and three-mile walk along Manhattan's most spectacular waterfront park. And 100 percent of every dollar they raised will go directly to pancreatic cancer research, thanks to Cablevision's support of the Foundation.
The Foundation was honored to have U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer speak at the event in support of this important cause. Acclaimed actor Michael Ealy from award-winning television shows such as CBS' "The Good Wife" and Showtime's "Californication," as well as many films, also spoke at the event to show his support of the Foundation. Mr. Ealy lost a dear friend to pancreatic cancer. Jonathan Cheban from E!'s "The Spin Crowd" and "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" led the countdown to kick off the event.
In 1998, Cablevision Vice Chairman Marc Lustgarten was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, when little was known about the deadly disease. To help change that, Marc and his family, along with Cablevision and the Dolans, established The Lustgarten Foundation before he died. Since its inception, the Foundation that Marc inspired has been dedicated to advancing research related to the diagnosis, treatment and cure for pancreatic cancer. Its mission: to support research to find a cure for pancreatic cancer, facilitate dialogue within the medical and scientific community, and educate the public about the disease through awareness campaigns and fundraising events, like the New York City Pancreatic Cancer Research Walk. Marcia Lustgarten, Marc's wife, and their children, Jessica, Andrew and his wife Rachel, were at the New York City Walk to lead the ribbon-cutting for the event.
With more than 25 walks held nationwide annually, the Foundation's walks unite people in honor of those lost to pancreatic cancer and in support of those currently battling this deadly disease.

The Foundation's creator, Cablevision Vice Chairman Marc Lustgarten, died from pancreatic cancer in 1999, and because of Cablevision's support of the Foundation today, 100% of every dollar raised at the walk will go directly to pancreatic cancer research.
